I live in a dry climate (Denver, CO) and hydration is very important here in 5280 the Mile High City. No matter where you live you should drink some water everyday because it is good for you. Drinking water not only prevents dehydration but it cleanses your body by flushing out all the crap that you either eat/drink or breathe on a daily basis. (Actually, I have no idea if it flushes the crap you breathe, so now I'm just going to insert this disclaimer lest you find out on your own that I'm full of shit.)
In my quest for better health I have decided to cut out Diet Coke. Part of my DC addiction is the habit of having that beautiful silver can by me all day long. The good news is, I also have a water bottle with me at all times because I work out a lot and it is just a necessary accessory if you want to look sporty. This will definitely make quitting a bit easier.
In all fairness to myself, I do drink a lot of water on a daily basis. If you work out at all in Denver you have to, otherwise you are sure to end up a shriveled ball of painful dehydration.
I did a search on drinking more water and found that wikiHow actually has an article called "How to Drink More Water Every Day". Do we really need instruction on this? I mean really, open mouth - drink water. Do it more than you usually do. Seems simple to me....
What I did learn is that the 8 - 8oz glasses rule we all know of is not actually a fact. It is a myth that has been busted by SNOPES.com - kidney specialists agree that the 8x8 rule is a gross overestimate of any required minimum. Some jackass wrote an article one day and pulled the 8-10 glasses of water figure straight out of his butt. The amount of water you should drink varies depending on your weight, activity level and climate. The wiki article outlines a specific formula for determining your intake needs HERE , but all of this water controversy has me a bit nervous. I'm afraid that you may overdose on water so I'm not going to publish it on this site. Seriously, too much water can be fatal and I love you all and without you my traffic would plummet and then my whole reason for writing would be gone and I'd probably go back to drinking Diet Coke out of severe depression.
So, drink water, but don't drink too much, and whatever you do, PLEASE don't talk about Diet Coke around me today.

23 Responses to "Drink Water, But Not Too Much Water ~ Everything in Moderation"I really need to drink more water. But I hate it. So, thank God I will not overdose. I will be here for you daily. LOL
I wonder how much water I would need. I'm not drinking enough...but you definitely are.
LOL! According to their formula, I have to drink 7.5 glasses of water a day for my body! And here I thought I was going to get away with just five or six! ;-)
Jennifer and I both will float away!! I am tall. So, it was like 9 glasses!!
I cut pop out about 2 summers ago. It lasted about a year. I couldn't take it. This summer - I am going to try again.
I love the new look of your blog. I'm guilty of not drinking enough water especially when I'm living in the tropics!!
Just make sure to keep the water bottle and lid clean -- my 24-year-old daughter picked up the lid to my very cool Starbucks water bottle and said, "Ew, Mom. You've got some black mold here." Yuck!!!
This is good to know as I think I have be overdosing! WOW that totally made me sound like a crack addict.
hehe... i'll be the first to admit that if it IS possible to drink too much water... i'm afraid i might fall into that category!
I heard about a woman who died from drinking too much water on a radio challenge, but it was like two gallons over a couple of hours. I'll keep on drinking too much, myself.
This may be hard to believe, but I haven't had one soda in over 5 years. I always and I mean ALWAYS have a water bottle with me. I chug it like crazy, a habit I picked up while I was preggo! Water also tastes so much better with a few slices of lemon...it makes it less boring!
Good luck!
I'm glad you cut out the DC.....so not good for you! Good for you on drinking alot of water. Water keeps you hydrated and young looking (or so they say)
(This advise brought to you by an old coffee addict and junk food junkie.....yes, I'm always a mother.....do what I say, not as I do!)
By the way, I love your new look!
I keep falling of the wagon when it comes to certain bubbly beverages....
Love the water....
Good for you for giving up the diet coke. Soda always makes me feel like crap...my new drink of choice is cranberry juice with a splash of seltzer. Yum. And water, of course.
I try to drink water throughout the day. In fact I have a glass beside me right now. I try to stick to soda only at dinnertime. It's something I can look forward to. That probably sounds a little sad but eh...:)
I quit soda (pop) of all kinds about a year and a half ago. I'm not a big water fan...I try, but unless I'm really thirsty I just can't do it. I try to find substitutes like Pellegrino or kombucha or vanilla rooibos tea. It makes it so much easier.
Yeah.. we stopped buying soda around here as well. It is cheaper and better for you!
Love your blog, and I know I don't drink enough water. Diet drinks are my addiction.
You are too funny :-) I am drinking nothing but water except my coffee, but that still only amounts to about 3 bottles a day so I should be okay. I have heard of that before,, you multiply something by your body weight, I will have to go look, but I think I am suppose to have 6 cups a day.
Fiona you are truly and fun trip! thanks for bringing some laughs!
I think I'm too serious sometimes or many times! I will keep on stopping a good dose of knowledge and humor!
One of my only healthy habits is that I drink water before all other drinks. But I know you can drink too much water. My cousin almost drowned herself somehow by drinking too much water. Good luck on your Diet Coke cleanse!
Water.
Yes, well, I'll partake in that when I can't find that other drink beverage, the one I shall not mention that courses through my blood like a sugar IV drip.
Maybe, if you can do it, I can think of forsaking my D.C. addiction as well..........
But you'll have to be the test pilot on that nightmare inspiring adventure before I even consider it.

I was just in Denver last weekend to visit my hubby whom is out there on business and got one of those little city guides they have in the hotel lobby and it says Denver has some of thee healthiest, fittest people in america...so you probably already have a leg up in your quest for better health.
P.S-I love your city, wanna swap houses lol?!?!?!?!
Are you getting rid of all caffeine or just DC? I would not be fun to be around if I didn't have my daily dose of Diet Dr Pepper. Good luck!
